If you choose to pay by direct debit we will always calculate your payments so that your rent account is clear with no debts or credits on it by the end of the financial year (end of March).

If your account is not in arrears we will calculate your direct debit as follows:

(your weekly rent amount) minus (any housing benefit paid directly to us for you)

For example:

If your weekly rent amount is £95.00 and we receive £45.00 housing benefit paid to us, your weekly direct debit would be:

(£95.00) minus (£45.00) = (95.00 - 45.00) = £50.00 per week.

If your account is in arrears we will calculate your direct debit to ensure that you make a weekly payment towards them.  We will usually calculate your direct debit so that any arrears are cleared from your account by the end of the financial year (end of March).  The way we will work out your payment is as follows:

(your weekly rent amount) minus (any housing benefit paid directly to us for you) multiplied by (the number of weekly payments you will make before the end of the financial year) plus (your arrears) divided by (the number of weekly payments you will make before the end of the financial year)

For example:

If your weekly rent is £95.00, we receive £45.00 per week housing benefit paid to us, you have an arrear of £200.00 on your account and you choose to pay by weekly direct debit from the first week of October we would calculate your weekly direct debit amount as follows:

(£95.00 weekly rent) minus (£45.00 housing benefit) multiplied by (26 weekly payments left this financial year) plus (£200.00 arrears) divided by (26 weekly payments left this financial year) =

(95.00 - 45.00) = (50.00 x 26) = (1300.00 + 200.00) = (1500.00/26) = £57.69 per week
